Patriots vs Redskins Week 14
The patriots remain as front runners for the coveted number 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.
In week 14 of the 2011 NFL season the Pats recorder their 10th win of the season over the Washington Redskins. Late in the 4th quarter, Tom Brady had a chance to put the game away driving deep into Redskins territory already up 7.
However, rather than settling for 3 and securing the lead Brady tried to force a pass into the back of the end zone and turned it over giving the Redskins a chance to drive the length of the field and tie it up before the final gun.
This rare Brady error spawned a screaming match between him and his Offensive Coordinator which of course was well documented by the media.
Final Score : Patriots 34- Redskins 27
The New England Patriots defense has been suspect all season, and as expected the Redskins were able to drive the 80 yards into the Pats red zone with enough time left to tie the game.
Lady Luck
After driving 75 yards down to the Patriots 5 yard line Redskins QB Rex Grossman threw a pass that was batted around and intercepted by the Patriots defense sealing the victory. The defense made the stop, but lady luck was obviously in their corner.
Unfortunately for New England, lady luck is consistently changing uniforms and in order to win in the post season, you can’t rely on luck.
Defense Far From Fixed
Just a few weeks ago the King of adjustments on the fly, Head Coach Bill Belichick seemed to have fixed the awful defense, but over the last 2 weeks, the defense is far from fixed.
After the game against the winless Colts became a laugher, the Patriots defense allowed the Colts to get back into the game and almost tie it. Just this past week, if not for a batted ball that resulted in a lucky bounce right into a Patriots defenders lap, that week 14 match-up would have went into overtime.
Brady & Belichick
Bottom line, the Patriots have in my opinion, the best QB of All Time, they have a future first ballot Hall of Fame Coach, but if they don’t get their defense fixed, or even decent by the New Year, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were one and one.
On the other hand, because of the dynamic duo of Brady and Belichick, I wouldn’t be shocked if they went all the way either. Patriot fans, and Patriots front office alike, would feel a lot better, if the defense wasn’t ranked 32 out of 32 teams in the NFL.
